When I first laid my eyes on this book, I was hooked! "Period costume, in illustration?" *gasp* Niiiiiiiiice... My hand reached out to the shelf. "Meg Cabot? Isn't she the one who wrote The Princess Diaries..." Interesting!"Viscount? Mmmmmm..." About a male Princess Mia, perhaps? *started to flipping through*OK, I'll take it! *grinning*And it didn't disappoint. "No, no, the Viscount isn't about a male Princess Mia. It's a [real] historical romance, but written in the style of chick-lit." (I wasSet in the 1800s of the fashionable society of London when industrialisation along with rail roads have started becoming a popular and revolutionary thing, Nicola Sparks, an orphan and sole owner of Beckwell Abbey is ready to be introduced in the society after her education in a posh boarding school. The need of Nicola to establish her self in the society, falling in love with Lord Sebastian, the jolly teasing of Nat, the business dream of Grouser and the struggle of Nicola amidst all odds, the
nicola and the viscount (along with victoria and the rogue, which i'm probably going to re-read in the next few days) are the childhood darlings i'm not sure i'm ever going to be able to kill; i'm not sure how old i was when i first read them, but it was probably somewhere between eight and ten, as a precocious, slightly ridiculous child who loved austen and wilde, and wanted to live a comedy of manners. and cabot's historical romance is tailored so perfectly to the child i was, a fond, slightly
I literally cant get enough of this book, or the other sister book by Meg Cabot. Granted, Megs 'Princess diaries' series was absolute shit but this book is ADORABLE. This is the best book to read if you want something light and sweet to read. I cant even. This must be my what, 7th time reading this book and i still grin and squeal like an idiot at all the cute parts. Nathaniel Sheridan- with your cute little lock of brown hair that incessantly falls into your eyes- is the personification of the
Nicola and the Viscount is an entertaining and quick read, but I was at no point fully invested in the story, neither did I care for the characters all that much. I wish I liked this more, because, come on, Meg Cabot was my childhood, but alas, I found it predictable, with trite characters and plot twists. :(
I'm not usually a big fan of historical novels but I really enjoyed this one. The plot was great and the book does not have any dull moment! The characters are also great, Nicola is strong willed and a little improper for her time which was a really good thing for this book. I like nothing more than stubborn characters who stand up straight for what they think is the right thing to do.
