In the new fantasy Archibald Finch and the Lost Witches by Michel Guyon, everything frightens curious and precocious Archibald Finch, especially vegetables and his new home, which his family recently inherited from his grandmother. However, Archibald is willing to face his fears in order to find the Christmas present his parents say they didn't buy him yet. Upon tearing apart the manor and finding an old globe hidden in the library, he, instead of finding his present, has stumbled upon anI love everything Da Vinci so even though LDV is only part of the backstory here, I really enjoyed all the references to the great Renaissance Man. Seeing the tank that LDV imagined come to life and be put to use, was truly a great surprise, especially against the most unexpected enemy! I had seen prior attempts at using LDV's work in some novels, but never in a book for middle grade or young adult audience. Maybe it's because I'm fixated on books turned into movies and/or movies turned books, but the whole time I was reading this book, I said to myself: I can't wait to see the movie!I don't think it's only due to my obsession though. I would credit that to the absolutely gorgeous illustrations, which help create a storyboard feel and also connect each story with each other.
