4.5 stars. This series has definitely grown on me! I enjoyed the first in series but still felt slightly ambivalent. It can take a while to get used to a new world and cast of characters. So Im really glad I picked this next one up. I love the fact that the Price version of family is not just one of blood, but of love and those you pick up along the way, regardless of genetics. Writing urban fantasy is like trying to reinvent the wheel, as in there's very little new ground to break at this point, but as Seanan McGuire put it in her shoutout to Michelle Sagara West's Silence: "Being a wave isnt bad; I write urban fantasy, I am basically sponsoring a surfing competition. I have read all of Seanan McGuires October Daye series (which I adore) and her Newsflesh series written as Mira Grant (which I also loved). This is the second book in the Incryptid series and it was even better than the first! I got a copy of this book to review through Goodreads First Reads program. Most of the newer UF books are predictable, unoriginal and cliched and I find it difficult to distinguish one series from the other.
